March 2020, we had a lot going on at the school. Students were busy with their studies, art, music, and sign language, and we were making progress with our upcoming dinner theater performance of “The Gutbucket Cafe”. Everything was going great, but in a moment it all changed.
On March 13th, we made the decision to send the kids home early. The staff gathered their books and assignments as I assured them that teaching online would be a breeze. God Bless them. By Sunday, classes were created, and by Monday, we were ready to roll. A new way of life for most of the students and the teachers had begun.
I am still amazed how beautifully it all transitioned. What a blessing to see the kids fully accepting and not complaining (too much) about their new way of learning. Maybe I give them too much credit. It is kind of nice to chill at home in your daytime p.j.s and do your work. For some of the students, homeschooling was quite familiar and our school was just another avenue for them to learn something new. For others, it was total change.
Regardless, we have been doing great. Assignments are being completed and we added back our enrichment and arts classes. Some parents are liking it so much that it may become the new way of STCA. We have offered distance learning in the past, but now we will be integrating it into our already full program.
Though the future is unsure, there is one thing I know. We will always be here to offer, in some way, the beauty of a classical education, the truth of our Faith, and the fine arts. Oh and we will, in the near future, perform “The Gutbucket Cafe”, for as they say: The show must go on!
